Leaving Lectoure
Lectoure
After a very tiring day I arrived in Condom yesterday, found a camping, made something to eat, and down I went, tired but very content. I did it, this stretch is done, not in the nicest way, but still I am happy with it.
Condom Today I went to the postoffice to collect my first mail, thanks so much for the late 'Easter Egg': the package and letters. Alas, I had to give away the candles, inside my small tent they are too dangerous, my nose and eyes would be right above them, but all the other goodies are gratefully accepted.
I think I talked about this before, the old route didn't go through woods or follow narrow paths, but through villages and cities, where carriages could go and people could find shelter and protection in the old days. Sometimes the GR deviates a lot from the old route, which lies probably under today's macadam. But the GR is quieter and much nicer to walk, only I try to pass through as many villages as I can.
Back to Condom, I remembered it very well from an earlier visit, it is not like Cahors, but quite an improvement after Moissac. I feel restful again, the water rustles peacefully at my camp.

14 April 1996 Eauze, 8.30 p.m. I took a hotelroom again, it is at the entrance of this small town on the GR and very cheap. The woman was very friendly, concerned about the wet and tired 'pilgrim' on his way to this lofty destination.
Vineyard Today I met some fellow pilgrims, a group of 7 people and 2 cars. At first I regarded them with some compassion, but later I thought it was not such a bad idea: this way people who can't make it all the way, can walk parts of the road and without much luggage. Many combinations are possible, even 6 walkers and 1 driver. Only those very large cockles around their necks.......
About 6 km before Eauze you get to an old railroadtrack, there was even a small railway station. Yes, a nice walk today, but of course the camping was closed, so that's why the hotel.

15 April 1996 I am in Nogaro, in a gîte, haven't visited the place yet, will tomorrow when I have to go to the postoffice.
OK, so yesterday was the day of power, rather high pace, being able to go on and without any problem. After a while I feel fatigue, but it doesn't hold me back.
Today a quiet day, in the beginning I forced myself to take it easy, only 25 km to go so lots of time. then I was completely in harmony with the landscape around me, beautiful route, although the GR had changed and I had to make a detour. In Manciet I noticed that the stitching of my shoe had come apart, have to get that fixed as soon as possible tomorrow in Aire-sur-l'Ardour.
Someone else is here, a glider-pilot staying for a week. He has a room for himself, upstairs is for me.
